Amir’s journey to Calgary began in 2023, when he and his family moved from Iran with the hope of creating greater opportunities for their son’s future. With a Ph.D. in Poultry and Animal Science and a career rooted in higher education, Amir brought with him years of experience as a Professor of Animal Physiology, where he supervised graduate students at both the PhD and MSc levels. His research not only contributed to industry development but also supported the advancement of compliance standards.
Driven by a deep love of teaching, Amir was eager to find a way to give back while gaining Canadian experience. Volunteering with CIWA became that opportunity—one he describes as both an honour and a meaningful first step into community service in Canada. For Amir, volunteering is more than just contributing time; it is a spiritual experience that allows him to give back to society in significant ways. Each time he leaves a volunteer shift, he does so feeling happier than when he arrived.
Amir thrives in roles that allow him to connect directly with clients. Whether he is teaching in the classroom, supporting learners, or serving as an interpreter, he values the unique perspective each role offers. He is deeply aware of the trust placed in him by both clients and staff, and he approaches that responsibility with humility and gratitude. What inspires him most is the determination he sees in CIWA’s learners—especially seniors over the age of 70 who demonstrate remarkable courage and vulnerability as they take on the challenge of learning a new language.
Drawing on his academic background, professional experience, and the insights he gains from clients themselves, Amir continually adapts his teaching style to meet learners where they are. He finds it incredibly rewarding to witness those moments when a concept clicks, knowing that even small breakthroughs can have a meaningful impact on someone’s confidence and quality of life.

Amir has made a strong impact on both the LINC program and our clients through his reliable and hands-on support. He has assisted in class, supported program facilitation, and helped create a more welcoming and organized learning environment for clients. He is dependable, proactive, and quick to learn. He is approachable, respectful, and always willing to help where needed

Since beginning his volunteer journey with CIWA in December 2025, Amir has made a lasting impression. He quickly became a valued member of the Language Training and Childcare Department, providing in-class support and helping facilitate programs such as LINC and Everyday English for Seniors. Known for his willingness to step in wherever needed, Amir has built strong, positive connections with clients and staff alike. Although his availability has recently shifted due to new personal commitments, he continues to support the Everyday English for Seniors program, and his ongoing dedication and enthusiasm remain deeply appreciated by everyone he works with.
