Leadership with Purpose
CIWA’s Board of Directors guides the organization and keeps it accountable to the immigrant women, girls, and families CIWA serves.
Board members bring professional expertise, community knowledge, and lived experience. At least two-thirds are immigrants to Canada, so the people making decisions reflect the people CIWA works for.
Working with the Chief Executive Officer and leadership team, the Board sets CIWA’s long-term direction, protects its mission, and oversees performance and financial health.
The Board has nine to fifteen elected members and makes decisions by consensus.
The CEO takes part as an advisor, without a vote. CIWA holds its Annual General Meeting each June.

CIWA’s Board of Directors provides strategic leadership and governance to help ensure the organization remains strong, responsive and accountable to the immigrant women, girls and families we serve.
Our Board brings together diverse professional expertise, community knowledge and lived experience. Reflecting the communities at the heart of CIWA’s work, at least two-thirds of Board members are immigrants to Canada. This perspective strengthens decision-making and helps ensure CIWA continues to evolve alongside the changing needs of our communities.
Working in partnership with CIWA’s Chief Executive Officer and leadership team, the Board helps guide the organization’s long-term direction, safeguards its mission and values, oversees organizational performance and sustainability, and supports responsible growth and innovation.
The Board is made up of nine to fifteen elected members and operates through a collaborative, consensus-based approach to decision-making. The Chief Executive Officer participates in Board and committee meetings as an advisor and non-voting member.
As CIWA continues to grow its impact locally, provincially and nationally, the Board plays an important role in ensuring the organization remains grounded in its purpose: empowering immigrant women and enriching Canadian society.
CIWA holds its Annual General Meeting each June.
